Log cabin insurance

If you’re going to be living in your log cabin permanently or even use it as a holiday home you are going to need to treat it the same you would a normal home. That means setting up things like telephone, internet, getting all your utilities sorted out, and making sure you have the right home insurance.

The contents inside your log cabin will need to be covered with a contents insurance policy. A good policy will cover you if your possessions are damaged or stolen. Contents insurance is separate from a Buildings insurance policy, which will cover the actual structure of the building.

Getting a good home insurance policy doesn’t have to be difficult and there are a few ways that you can make sure you get a good policy at the right price.

Here are some tips:

Compare different policies- It’s often a good idea not to go for the first policy that you find. You might be missing out on a cheaper deal from another provider that in the end works out better for you.

Secure your home- Make sure your home is as secure as it can be. That includes having locks on windows and all doors as well as fitting a burglar alarm if possible. Taking these types of measures will mean that your home insurance premium might be reduced.

Choose your cover carefully- It can sometimes be easy to get too much insurance cover. Make sure that you only take out the cover that you need by choosing your insurance carefully or speaking to an advisor who can help you make sure you get the right home insurance for you.

Increase the excess- You may want to think about increasing the excess you are willing to pay if you have to make a claim. This is the lump sum you have to pay out when you claim on your insurance. It’s important not to go overboard with this though because you might be disappointed when it comes to making a claim and you realise you have quite a large amount of excess to pay. It’s normal for almost everyone to want to decrease the amount they have to pay for their home insurance. But at the same time it’s important to remember that you need to make sure you have the right cover, if you cut costs you might not be adequately insured if you need to make a claim and that can be tricky financially.
